Devices and system settings

Basis runs on your device and needs a supported iPhone or iPad with these settings.

• iPhone: iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16 models or later, iPhone Air, or iPhone Duo.
• iPad: iPad mini (A17 Pro) and iPad models with M1 or later.
• Operating system: iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 or later.
• Apple Intelligence: turned on in Settings.
• Language: device language and Siri language both set to English (US).

One-time speech download

On first use, Basis downloads Apple's speech model once (Wi-Fi is best), and transcription works offline after that. If Apple Intelligence is still being prepared, the setup screen updates as soon as it's ready.

Getting started with a visit

1. Set up recording: grants microphone access and downloads the speech model the first time.
2. Start recording: talk with your patient, then tap Stop recording. Basis transcribes the visit and drafts a note in your template.
3. Review each section: check each drafted section against what was said (the app's "What was said" view) and tap Mark as reviewed.
4. Save note: available once every section is reviewed; keeps the note on this device.
5. Copy note: puts the saved note on the clipboard for two minutes so you can paste it into another app.
