How Basis handles your data

Basis, from Basis Health, records, transcribes, and drafts visit notes on your iPhone or iPad. In the current app release, Basis requires no account, and your recordings, transcripts, and notes stay in local storage on your device.

Visit recordings, transcripts, and notes on your device

When you record a visit, Basis uses your microphone to save the audio on your iPhone or iPad. After required Apple speech and language assets are installed, which may involve a download from Apple, transcription and note grouping run on your device using Apple's built-in models. The app includes no analytics or advertising tracking and does not send visit audio, transcripts, or notes to Basis or third-party AI services.

Visit audio stays with the transcript and note on your device so you can replay the recording or rebuild the draft. Basis marks local visits, your optional clinician profile, and personal templates as excluded from device backups. iOS, iPadOS, and your Apple settings separately govern Apple asset downloads, permissions, and any device diagnostics shared with Apple.

Optional clinician profile and personal templates

If you save a clinician profile (name, specialty, patient population, typed location, and practice name) or create personal note templates, Basis stores them locally on your device. Profile location is typed text, not a GPS lookup, and the app never requests location permission or reads your device location. After you type two letters in the location field, the letters typed so far are sent to Apple Maps to suggest cities, never to Basis. You can still type any location without picking a suggestion, and if you are offline, no suggestions appear.

If you record a spoken profile introduction, Basis keeps temporary audio on your device during recording and transcription, removes it after transcription succeeds before filling in your profile fields, and attempts to delete it on cancellation, skip, mode switch, interruption, or backgrounding, as well as on app startup if a leftover file remains. Raw typed or transcribed introduction text stays in memory during typing, transcription, extraction, and review, and only the five profile fields you save are stored.

Deleting data, changing settings, and copying notes

Basis does not automatically purge older visits. Deleting a visit removes its recording, transcript, and saved note snapshots from local app storage on your device. To change or clear your profile, open Settings, tap Edit profile, clear or update the fields, and tap Save profile. You can also delete personal templates from your library while existing visits keep the template snapshot saved with them, and you can turn off microphone access in iOS or iPadOS Settings.

Copy note places your reviewed note on the local device clipboard for two minutes so you can paste it into another app. Deleting a visit or letting the clipboard expire does not remove text already pasted elsewhere.

Website traffic and contacting Basis Health

The Basis app does not automatically send your recordings, transcripts, or notes to our website or email. When analytics is enabled on basishealth.ai, the website uses a privacy-friendly analytics service to measure page traffic.

The Basis download page has no contact form. Contact forms on other pages of this site check your IP address to limit repeated submissions and send your name, email, message, and any optional organization or role through our email delivery provider to our configured contact inbox. If you email us or submit a site form, we receive whatever text you send so we can reply, and our email and delivery services may retain that message. For privacy questions, email Basis Health at [email protected], and do not include patient or visit information.
